Nepal Government Struggles to Provide Earthquake Relief
Nepal is struggling Sunday to rescue trapped victims of the earthquake and provide relief in the face of powerful aftershocks and insufficient resources.
- More than 2,400 people were killed and more than 5,900 injured after the quake hit near Katmandu. The death toll is expected to rise.
- Prime Minister Sushil Koirala rushed back to Katmandu from an overseas trip as it became clear that the Nepalese authorities were ill-equipped.
- The government began setting up 16 relief stations across Katmandu and the rest of the country while trying to distribute water, food and medicine.
Katmandu Residents, Sleeping Outside, Now Face Rain
